Start a moving business without buying a truck.
Learn how to find your first customers, price the job and run it, from Liam and Jacob at Hercules Moving Heroes. Jacob started it in 2023 without buying a truck. It now brings in $60,000+ a month, every month, and is pacing $750,000 this year.

How a first job happens
Your first customers cost about $5.
A $5 Craigslist ad, a free Google Business Profile and a post in your town's Facebook groups. That is how Jacob found his first jobs in 2023, and we still run all three today at $60,000+ a month. No truck, no crew, no office.
-
Step 1Get found, for about $5
Three photos from your phone, a plain description of what you move, and a number you answer. The same three things go on the profile, the ad and the post. The first calls are usually single items and small jobs: a couch across town, a storage unit, a customer's rental truck.
-
Step 2Price it with a range
Work out what a crew hour costs you, add your margin, and give the number with a range next to it. Ours is $200 an hour for two movers; yours comes from your wages and your town. Single items get a flat price of their own, so a minimum never prices out the small jobs. The calculator and the whole quote call are in the course.
-
Step 3Run it and get the review
Book it. A deposit holds the date, and a truck gets rented only if the job needs one. Wrap everything, arrive in the window you gave, and ask for the review at the truck. That review is the next customer: every one makes the next call easier to close.
Then do it again. Jacob's first job was one $75 box. The same three steps built a company that brings in $60,000+ a month, and the Craigslist ad that started it is in the course, word for word. See the steps on a real job
The lift: a china cabinet on shoulder straps, two movers.
The carry: a wrapped dresser, down a flight of stairs.
The load: a wall that will not shift.
One real job
From a web form to $900 and a five-star review.
A one-bedroom apartment, August 2026. Two movers, hourly, a rented truck would have done it. This is the three steps above run on one customer, and it is the size of job the $5 channels bring in.
- Tue Aug 4, 2:10 PMInquiry. Website form: "One bedroom apartment. Preferred date August 28." Two zip codes. That is the whole lead.
The form, as it landed in the inbox. Name and number covered. - 2:23 PMScope. Our first text, thirteen minutes later: any stairs at either end? One flight at pickup, two at drop-off.
- Thu Aug 6, 11:05 AMQuote. After her photos, two options: two movers at $200 an hour, about 4 to 6 hours, or $1,200 flat. She took hourly at 11:07.
The two options as texted, and her answer two minutes later. - 11:32 AMAgreement. The written agreement in her inbox 23 minutes after the yes, with the clock explained. Signed and a $100 deposit paid the next morning.
- Fri Aug 28The move. Dean and Logan, 4.5 hours portal to portal, $900 billed. Five-star review before the invoice went out. Neither of us was there.
The review, the morning after. Tap it to open the Hercules reviews on Google.
Her name is changed in the text and covered in the screenshots, her addresses are left out, and the times and the numbers are as they happened.
The course
Moving Company in a Month.
Who it's for. Someone with a phone, a free weekend and no truck, who wants the order of operations. Taught by Liam, with Jacob, from what Hercules actually does.
The first month, as an action plan
What you'll have after the first month
- A name, a business line and a Google Business Profile, set up the way ours is
- A rate you can say out loud, from your own costs, and a flat price for single items
- The quote call and the Craigslist post, word for word, with your numbers in
- The agreement, the deposit rule, and how to run the day
- Your first conversations started, and the first small job booked when one comes
The month in the name is the plan, not a promise. Jacob's first customer came fast; yours depends on your town, your post and your phone.
- 1The first job. Modules 0 to 7: gear, free channels, the call, the quote, the close, the craft, running the day.
- 2To $100K. Modules 8 to 12: pricing from real numbers, reviews, paid leads, the website, your first hire.
- 3Past the ceiling. Modules 13 to 18: finding a foreman, the software we run on, the second crew, what we got wrong, and a licensing and insurance map.
No lesson clips yet. The free pages on this site are cut from the same lessons: the quote-call opening, the profile fields and the pricing math.

Who you'll hear from
A $75 box, then two years on the truck.
I'm Jacob. In 2023 I was working a gas station counter for $17 an hour. A man with a bad back offered me $75 to move one box from the post office to his house. It took ten minutes, so I kept taking those jobs: single items, small apartments, the work the bigger companies would not get out of bed for. Inside the first month I had a $1,000 day.
I ran it alone for two years: $85,000 the first full year, $120,000 the next. It paid, and it never grew, because I was the crew. At the end of 2025 Liam joined, we hired a foreman, built the website and the review habit, and got me off the truck. Now the crews move and we quote, price, schedule and hire. Hercules Moving Heroes is about ten employees and a licensed carrier in Palenville, New York.
The two lessons: the truck is the last thing you buy, and the ceiling breaks when the owner stops being the crew. The longer version is on the About page.

Before you start
Five questions people ask first.
Do I need a truck?
Not to start. Book the job first, then reserve a rental and pay for it out of the deposit. Single items and small jobs often fit in a car or a customer's rental. Hercules rented every truck it used until 2026, and we still rent box trucks when the numbers say to. Why the truck comes last.
Do I need a license or insurance?
It depends on your state and the kind of work. Many states require a permit to move household goods for hire, and single items and small jobs usually sit outside those rules, which is why they are where most people start. Customers with anything worth moving will ask about insurance, and once you have a crew you need workers' comp. We are movers, not lawyers: read what the rules require and what insurance costs, then check your own state before a full-house move.
What does it really cost to start?
Jacob spent under $50 before his first customer paid him, because he already had a phone and a car, started with single items, and rented the truck after the job was booked. That figure leaves out blankets, dollies, insurance and any state registration. Plan on more than he spent. The course costs $497 and is separate from any of that.
Do I need experience as a mover first?
It helps and it is not required. Jacob's first job was one box carried from a post office. What you need to know on day one, how to wrap a dresser, how to stack a truck so nothing shifts, how to get a couch through a door, can be learned from a few afternoons of practice with your own furniture, and the craft module in the course is shot on real jobs. What experience does not teach you is pricing, and pricing is what makes or breaks the first year.
What does the course cost, and when does it open?
Moving Company in a Month opens November 3. $497, or three payments of $179. All sales are final, so every module and lesson is listed on the course page, and the waitlist gets the link first.
Licenses, insurance, what to charge, when to hire, when to buy the truck: thirty-five more questions are answered on the FAQ, and every term is defined in the glossary.
